Luau
I'm looking forward to the Hawaiian Luau Sunday August 24th!
Tea and sympathy on a leafy lane.
I have just been staying with my sister in rural Oxfordshire for a couple of days. Yesterday we had just come in from swimming with the family and had just sat down to have a nice cup of tea (is there any other sort) when my sisters husband said he had just heard a loud bang and a car horn loudly sounding.
My sister and I ran up the road about 400 yards - when I say ran, I mean a fast waddle on my part - we arrived to find that two cars had struck each other and appeared to be both written off.
As a former casualty nurse and first aider I thought I might be of assistance if there was need. The four youngsters in one car and one driver in the other were all relatively okay, although rather shaken up. Police and ambulance had been called but no one appeared badly hurt so we did what all ladies of a certain age do, rushed back home to make flasks of tea and coffee for the folks involved.
Back at my sisters house my mother was panicking - left with the children she was imagining all sorts of horrors - not remembering my years dealing with horrors first hand in accident and emergency - so was relieved when we returned with little more that the above to tell her.
All concerned were grateful for the tea and sympathy - by the time we returned police and ambulance were in attendance with it all well in hand and we bowed out once tea and coffee had been duly dispensed.
As we returned to my sisters house, I thought about giving aid to strangers and why we do it. I think it's because it is what we would wish to happen to us or our nearest and dearest should we be in a tight spot.
We don't always stop to think about why we act as we do, we just do it because it seems right.
Having read about scams and suchlike, I know there are strange people out there but the day good people stop helping others is when we should all call it a day.
Bengals Expectations, USA Men's B-Ball Showdown
I expect the Bengals offensive line to step up and do their jobs. Protect Carson and give him some breathing room to operate. Create some good push and holes for "Mean Chris Perry" and Kenny Watson to run through (even though these guys have been running well already, they need it now more than ever).
Boy are the Bengals thin at receiver...I was checking out bengals.com and saw that Glenn Holt, Antonio Chatman, and Jerome Simpson will be making the start. Hell, maybe I should suit up and try to walk on...but all jokes aside, I am expecting that these guys to step their game up...they are professionals and should play that way.
The situation at WR agains speaks to the need for a GM and expanded scouting department. I am tired of hearing Brat and Lewis say Simpson is not ready...then why did you pick him in the 2nd round? Regardless, he needs to prove all naysayers wrong (including myself).
It was good to see the Bengals running some 3 and 5-step drop quick hitters against Detroit...they were effective. With this group of WRs, they will have to do a lot more of that and maybe abandon a lot of the downfield gameplan.
I expect the Bengals to focus heavily on the run, like they promised all offseason. They have to be patient with it though and stick with it even if it looks like it is not doing much...eventually that defense will soften up. (They should've already cut Jeremi Johnson for his lack of discipline, but oh well, par for the course).
I expect them to put together a decent first drive...maybe not scoring but earning a couple first downs, and setting up good field position (which is really what the game of football is all about-defending a long field and trying to score from a short one).
I expect Zimmer to have a plan to get some pressure on the QB. I don't mean blitz every down, because eventually the Saints and Brees will burn you deep. C'mon D line have some
Pride and put just a little pressure on the QB.
It is hard for an NFL secondary to stop the pass if the QB has all day...so expect more of the same scorchings if Brees has all day to survey the field and throw. I cannot speak to the injured/absent players except, fughedaboutit...the Bengals who are there have to go out there with pride and do the best they can do.

It is showdown time, showtime, time for a little comeuppance, a little revenge, settling of a score, a grudgematch:
USA's Redeem Team vs. Argentina (Semifinal, Fri. Aug 22, 10:15 a.m. EST)
I chose this pic because with this team it is not about individuals but about a team coming together to play this game how it was meant to be played, and they are getting the results.
Well, just so you know, Argentina knocked the US out of the semifinals in the '04 games and went on to win gold. If the US wins, they get to play for gold, it's very simple. I am not going to go into big analysis I've got this link for game preview if you're interested:

Other than that, alls I have to say is: U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!...ad infinitum

Also don't forget, when any of you get tired of the Phelps media onslaught...I will provide MP free shelter! haha (just joking, kinda)

Blind justice no longer
I see that now Mr Gadd, aka Gary Glitter, is on his way back to the UK, after having been, according to press accounts, "tricked" into returning home. ""It was a trap and he fell for it," the source said. "He was given the deportation papers as soon as he touched down. That meant they could legally make him get on that plane back to the UK, or put him in a detention centre."
What I should like to know is whether or not every other paedophile convicted by foreign courts is treated in the same manner. If they are not, then were I Mr Gadd, I would be suing for cruel and unusual punishment, if this is not the customary way in which things are done.
I should like to say once again that while I feel very strongly indeed about paedophilia, I also believe with every fibre of my being that justice must be seen to be impartially administered, and that the way in which any individual is treated by the law should remain the same, whether they are in Debrett's, a member of the government, a so-called "celebrity" or a member of hoi polloi.
I keep reading that Mr Gadd will be "made to sign the sexual offenders' register." How are they going to "make" him? Will someone be holding a gun to his head? Are we now living in such a police state here that the say-so of any judicial system in the world is enough to deprive us of our liberty on our return here? Is this the same country that refuses to send home foreign terrorists for fear of the sort of "justice" that might be administered beyond our courts?
Had Mr Gadd in fact killed the two girls rather than had his wicked way with them, then there would be none of the song and dance and palaver that will meet him on his return. He would have done his time, and our system would have taken no notice: justice would have been seen to have been done. It makes you wonder just what sort of world we are living in.
Search for 3rd WR continues
Apparently Marcus Maxwell's injury was worse than expected. On Thursday, the Bengals waived the third-year receiver under the category of "Waived/Injured."
If he clears waivers, he will revert to the Bengals' Reserve/Injured list
Maxwell had three catches for 37 yards in Sunday's loss to the Lions and two catches for 28 yards in the preseason opener against the Packers.
Already without T.J. Houshmandzadeh and Chad Johnson, Maxwell was expected to be a prime target for Carson Palmer on Saturday against the Saints.
Jerome Simpson will apparently be getting a battlefield promotion, but who else with Andre Caldwell on crutches as well. Looks like Antonio Chatman and Simpson will be your starters, maybe Glenn Holt.

You thought the Alonso negotiations went badly, well..!
The Redlegs were soundly criticized locally and nationally for their contract strategy with Yonder Alonso. However, lest we become too despondent, the Washington Nationals and Jim Bowden did worse, thus restoring confidence in the Reds' "not the worst run team in the league" status. To read how bad it could have been, or run, go here.

Labour will win election
Gordon Brown has left London for the Olympics declaring Labour will "go on and win" the next general election.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/7573432.stm
This is a very likely possibility when people consider the facts that within two years we will see worldwide economic recovery, the possibility of a democractic and fresh US President, the Tories melting under serious scrutiny and a whole set of government proposals to ease the burden from hardworking families.
People live in the short-term in politics, they see a few bad weeks as the end of the end! In fact in the last week or so I have spoken to a fair few people and most are saying the same, Brown is the man who has the gravitas whilst Cameron doesn't. It seems people are warming much more to Brown as his policies are taking effect.
sorry people
im not one to post anything in blogs. i dont really know what to put in them.
HELP
USA relay Teams
I watched some of the athletics on TV this afternoon while faffing (I should have been cleaning) and saw the relay heats from the games.
Why did the USA teams, men and women, have the country hand written on the chest labels?

Amicus,
The LocksmithJH, as we all know, is really a Tory Boy. That's why many of us don't bother to comment on his blogs anymore. He was winding everyone up when all along he's a Cameron supporter.
